Recommendations to avoid accidents on beaches, rivers and swimming pools

Every year, accidents occur at sea, in rivers, or public and private swimming pools, sometimes with serious consequences such as drowning or severe trauma. It is, therefore, essential to follow a series of recommendations to avoid them.

We want to remind you that most water accidents can be avoided, so we advise you to take extreme precautions to prevent drowning and severe injuries at the beach or pool.

Some recommendations:

1. Make sure that the pool you go to complies with the necessary safety measures for the whole family. For example, check if it has an essential perimeter fence so that children cannot access it freely. Also, check if there is a lifeguard, first aid kit, or lifebuoy if necessary.

2. Remember that the supervision of your minor children is your responsibility.

3. Supervise minors
in the water or playing near it, and do not delegate this responsibility to an older child.

4. If you do not know how to swim or do not swim well, use a life jacket when bathing. Inflatable floats are not recommended.

5. Check the water temperature; a sudden change can harm your health.

6. It is advisable to always bathe with someone,
especially if you are elderly or have a health problem.

7. Drinking alcohol before bathing reduces your ability to react to danger and can lead to behavior that puts your health at risk. 8. Diving headfirst into shallow

water can cause severe injuries. Diving into the water without knowing how deep it is or if there is an obstacle is very dangerous

. 9. On the beach, respect the meaning of the flying flags. If it is red, never bathe.

10. Get out of the water immediately if you are tired or cold.

 11. Drowning occurs quickly and silently; most of the time, the victim is lost in sight for only a few minutes.

12. Many drownings occur in the family environment: a baby can drown in just 30 centimeters of water.
13. Respect the instructions of the staff and the existing signs.

14. Do not overestimate your physical condition or your ability to swim. If you feel tired or have difficulty returning to the sea, swim on your back, moving your legs only until you get close to the shore.

 15. Do not swim in areas where swimming is prohibited.

16. Bathing at night is very dangerous: if something were to happen to you, no one would be able to see it.

As summer approaches, many people dream of sunbathing, strolling along the beach, or enjoying a swimming pool. Most people are not aware of the risks associated with water, so it is always good to remember these tips.
